The circle of life.

This is actually Peter’s story, but some of the stories over at http://www.edgeoftheblue.blogspot.com inspired me to tell it anyway, since he doesn’t have access to the internet right now.

After a field trip with his class to find and talk about insects turning into an insect massacre, Peter returned to his class to try to explain why we need insects.

Peter: All living things work together and need each other. If we just kill all of one animal, it will hurt another animal that needs it around to survive. For example, what do chickens eat?

Students: Ground coconut!

Peter: Well, yes. But what else?

Students: Rice!

Peter: Ok…what else? (Why won’t they say insects?!)

Students: Seeds!

Peter: Yes, but… oh let’s think of another example.
